Happy Chinese New Year! I would like to wish the readers of Asia-Pacific Times all the very best for what promises to be another exciting year ahead.
Chinese New Year is a time to give thanks and celebrate with family and friends. It ’s also a time to recognise the significant contributions Chinese New Zealanders make to our country.
For more than 150 years, Chinese communities has been part of New Zealand ’s culture fabric. More than 200,000 Chinese New Zealanders now call Aotearoa home, and today, people from a wide range of backgrounds come together across the country to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
New Zealand also enjoys a warm friendship with China – our largest trading partner and largest source of international students. Last year I travelled to China and had the opportunity to meet with President Xi. It is clear to me there are future opportunities to deepen our already strong relationship this year.
As you mark the New Year with family, friends and neighbours, I hope the Year of the Rat brings you good fortune, peace and prosperity.
新年快乐！xīn nián kuài lè ！Sun Nin Fai Lok！
